Admission Requirements

Course pre-requisites

Completion of an AQF Level 7 bachelor degree (or qualifications recognised by the Division as equivalent), within previous five years in a discipline cognate to the proposed area of research; and

Achievement of an overall grade point average of 5.5 (i.e. credit average) across their bachelor degree, with credits or better in specific discipline areas; or by invitation of the College Dean.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 1 Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Additional selection requirements

Application for entry to the program is by approval of the College Dean.

Quota restrictions on the number of honours places available may apply from time to time as determined by the College Dean.

Applicants who graduated with a pass degree from another university or who graduated more than five years ago may be required to complete such coursework or assessment as the College Dean recommends.

Course learning outcomes

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science (Honours) at ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û will be able to:

  1. Integrate and apply a coherent and advanced body of theoretical and technical knowledge and skills, with depth in the underlying principles and concepts in one or more science disciplines
  2. Generate, analyse, synthesise and evaluate data and evidence to identify and provide solutions to complex problems with intellectual independence
  3. Communicate knowledge, data, arguments and research findings clearly and coherently to a variety of audiences through advanced English language, numeracy and technological skills
  4. Apply knowledge of research principles, methods, techniques and tools to plan and execute project work and/or a piece of research and scholarship with some independence
  5. Critically review regulatory requirements, ethical principles and, where appropriate, cultural frameworks, to work effectively, responsibly and safely in research contexts.
