Professional accreditation status

This course is accredited by Engineers Australia. All majors have full accreditation with the exception of the Electrical and Electronic major from the Cairns campus, which has provisional accreditation. JCU will apply for full accreditation for that program once the first significant cohort of students graduates.

Graduates are immediately eligible for graduate membership of Engineers Australia. After a period of professional practice, a graduate may apply to become a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and register under state-based schemes such as Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ). Accreditation also entitles graduates to have their qualifications recognised in countries that are signatories of the Washington Accord, and after a period of professional practice, apply for professional registration in those countries.

The Physics major for the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) [Embedded] - Bachelor of Science is accredited by the Australian Institute of Physics (AIP). Graduates are automatically eligible for membership of the Australian Institute of Physics.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at ϲʿ will be able to:

  2. Critically appraise the role and relevance of engineering in society, with specific reference to practices and priorities for creating sustainable communities and industries in the tropics
  3. Demonstrate broad understanding of engineering methods, including design processes, whole system approaches, formal project management, and decision-making strategies and their application in engineering practice
  4. Retrieve, analyse, synthesise, evaluate and manage information from a range of sources for engineering practice and research.
  5. Plan and conduct reliable, evidence-based laboratory and/or field experiments, by selecting and applying methods, techniques and tools as appropriate to the engineering discipline
  6. Organise, analyse and interpret scientific and/or engineering data using appropriate mathematical, statistical and technological skills
  7. Communicate ideas, arguments and conclusions clearly and coherently to a variety of audiences, through advanced English language skills and a variety of media
  8. Develop components, systems and/or processes to meet specified requirements, and creative approaches to synthesise alternative solutions, concepts and procedures for unpredictable or complex problems
  9. Critically review regulatory requirements, ethical principles and cultural frameworks, to work effectively, responsibly and safely in diverse contexts and interdisciplinary teams
  10. Prioritise multiple demands to achieve personal and team goals, with regular review of performance to manage continuing professional development

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science at ϲʿ will be able to:

Credit will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Credit gained for any subject shall be cancelled 23 years after the date of the examination upon which the credit is based if, by then, the student has not completed the course of study prescribed for the degree.

Other restrictions

A minimum of 18 credit points of engineering subjects (including 6 credit points of fourth year thesis) should be completed at ϲʿ for each of levels 3 and 4.

If the student requests credit approaching this maximum level, then the credit should be predominantly from the first two levels of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program.
