Graduates of this course who wish to become fully registered as a psychologist must complete an APAC accredited, Level 2, fourth year course (e.g., Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) or Graduate Diploma of Psychology), followed by the completion of an accredited Masters degree (e.g., Master of Professional Psychology, with one further year of supervised practice or a  Master of Psychology [Clinical]).  Please refer to the for more information.

Course pre-requisites

Completion of an AQF level 7 bachelor qualification in any field other than psychology at this or another university.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 1Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Additional selection requirements

Information published by JCU or otherwise made available to students when applying, may specify additional criteria to be considered in ranking applicants in order of merit if the number of applications exceeds a quota or other limit on the places made available for the course. Information provided by applicants during the application process and any other information obtained by JCU in the application process may be used by JCU to rank applicants in order of merit by reference to those additional criteria.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of the Graduate Diploma of Psychology (Bridging), graduates will be able to:

  1. Integrate and apply a coherent body of knowledge and skills in major theoretical perspectives, and philosophical and historical developments in core areas of psychology in a manner that is reflexive, culturally appropriate and sensitive to the diversity of individuals including but not limited to, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  2. Critically review, evaluate and apply evidence bases and basic ethics and research methods in psychology including research design, data analysis and interpretation to solve research questions related to the challenges of the diverse populations in regional, national and international communities including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  3. Demonstrate high level judgement, responsibility and accountability for ones own learning and ethical practice in collaboration with others
  4. Demonstrate advanced English language, technological and numeracy skills to generate, interpret, and communicate knowledge, data, arguments and findings in a culturally responsive manner appropriate for a diversity of audiences including but not limited to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  5. Work collaboratively and independently to design, evaluate and disseminate information and initiatives to promote and optimize mental health, resilience and well being in culturally and linguistically diverse populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
