Course pre-requisites

General registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia with no conditions and currently working in community or hospital practice in QLD.

Pharmacists will be required to have completed the following two training packages prior to commencement:

  • Pharmacist immunisation training
  • The Urinary Tract Infection Pharmacy Pilot – Queensland (UTIPP-Q) training module

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants must meet the AHPRA Registration Standard: Evidence of current general registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia will satisfy the Minimum English language proficient requirement.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of Extended Community Practice for Pharmacists - Training Component 1 and 2, graduates will be able to:

  1. Conduct an appropriate consultation and/or medical history, physical examination, and order and interpret appropriate pathology and investigations, to develop a working diagnosis within scope or refer out-of-scope patient presentations
  2. Identify, evaluate, and apply established evidence and approved clinical protocols in the provision of care and education listed within a Pharmacists expanding scope of practice
  3. Systematically plan safe, collaborative, effective, client centred, clinical care and self-management education for listed conditions within the identified scope of the Pharmacist
  4. Apply principles of accountable prescribing to the provision of integrated safe, accountable, and culturally sensitive patient care, utilizing a collaborative approach with patients, their carers, and other healthcare professionals, underpinned by the biopsychosocial model of medical assessment
  5. Document and communicate treatment options, agreed plan, and monitored progress with patient, carers, and patients’ other health care provider
  6. Reflect on current skills, knowledge and attitudes, and plan ongoing professional development.
