Course pre-requisites

  • Completion of an AQF level 7 bachelor degree in a cognate* discipline from this or another university and 2 years business experience*: or
  • Four years management experience** in a managerial role, to the satisfaction of the course coordinator: or
  • Other qualifications or practical experience recognised by the Dean, College of Business Law and Governance as equivalent to the above.
  • *Cognate disciplines: accounting and finance, marketing, management, commerce, human resource management, economics, tourism and hospitality or other disciplines where students will have completed study relating to organisational behaviour, business, strategy, marketing, economics, communication and people management.

    *Business experience: applicants must have a minimum of 2 years full-time equivalent professional work experience in a business environment. Students will have business experience relating to organisational behaviour, business, strategy, marketing, economics, communication and people management.

    **Management experience: applicants must have a minimum of 4 years full-time equivalent professional work experience in a management, leadership or supervisory level in a business environment or be eligible for a member grade status of a relevant professional organisation.  Students will have demonstrable effective management experience relating to organisational behaviour, business, strategy, marketing, economics, communication and people management.

    Entry requirements for this course are consistent with the Pathways to Qualifications in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF level 8) Guidelines for Graduate Certificate degrees.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 2 Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Additional admission requirements

Admissions based on relevant management experience in a managerial role must be supported by a detailed CV and proof of work experience (e.g. a letter from an employer detailing the position and job description).

This course is 100% online through a carousel delivery model.

Candidature

Expected time to complete

36 weeks in continuous carousel mode (12 credit points) or equivalent part-time

Explanation – Four study periods takes 32 weeks, but potentially spanning the mid-year or end-of-year breaks can add a further four weeks to the expected time to complete.

Maximum time to complete

Explanation – "part-time" modality for carousel offerings is expected to be at 2/3 of the full-time rate rather than 1/2 (study 16 weeks, 8 weeks off) as this results in 6 credit points per Teaching Period.  36 weeks x 1.5 + 1 year Leave of Absence = 106 weeks.  In Carousel model a leave of absence cannot be a full year if the student wishes to come back into the next subject.

Students may apply for a credit transfer for previous tertiary study or informal and non-formal learning in accordance with the Credit Transfer Procedure

Credit may also be granted for the following:

  • An AQF level 7 bachelor degree in a cognate discipline* in conjunction with four (4) years management experience** – up to 6 credit points

*Cognate disciplines: Accounting and Finance, Marketing, Management, Commerce, Human Resource Management, Economics, Tourism and Hospitality or other disciplines where students will have completed study relating to organisational behaviour, business, strategy, marketing, economics, communication and people management.

** Management experience: Applicants must have a minimum of 4 years full-time equivalent professional work experience in a management, leadership or supervisory level in a business environment or be eligible for a member grade status of a relevant professional organisation. 6 credit points, except where a student transfers from one JCU award to another, then credit may be granted for any subject where there is subject equivalence between the awards.

Currency

Credit will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Credit gained for any subject shall be cancelled 12 years after the date of the examination upon which the credit is based if, by then, the student has not completed the course.

Other restrictions

Credit will not be granted for undergraduate studies or for work experience used to gain admission to the course when assessed separately for admission requirements.
