Admission Requirements

Pre-requisites

Completion of an AQF level 7 bachelor degree; or

Other qualifications or practical experience recognised by DVC (Indigenous Education and Strategy) as equivalent to the above.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 1Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of the Graduate Certificate of Indigenous studies, graduates will be able to:

  1. Integrate and apply a specialised body of theoretical and specialised knowledge of the historical and contemporary position of Australian and international Indigenous communities to a variety of professional and academic settings
  2. Review, analyse and engage the problematic body of knowledge about Indigenous peoples to negotiate the boundaries of Indigenous and non-Indigenous knowledge standpoints, communicating these ideas to specialist and non鈥恠pecialist audiences
  3. Critically analyse complex situations to identify, plan and evaluate innovative and ethical solutions that respond to the contemporary position of Indigenous communities in the tropics, both in Australia and internationally
  4. Demonstrate highly advanced intercultural knowledge and communication skills to transfer complex theoretical and practical ideas in professional and academic settings
  5. Demonstrate personal autonomy and accountability, reflecting on the possibilities and limits of one’s knowledge, understanding and standpoints and how these reflective practices can be used in working with Indigenous people, communities and organisations.
