Course pre-requisites

Applicants must hold or demonstrate one (1) of the following pre-requisite requirements:

  • A three year post-secondary (post-Year 12 equivalent) qualification, eg:
    • India/Pakistan - three (3) year qualification post Standard/Class XII
    • China - three (3) year qualification post Senior High School Certificate
    • Sri Lanka - three (3) year qualification post A levels; or
  • An Associate degree*, or higher in any discipline, with a minimum GPA of 4.0; or
  • A Bachelor degree (or equivalent)* with a minimum GPA of 3.5; or
  • A minimum of three (3) years full-time equivalent managerial or professional work experience**.

* from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing)

** Relevant management or professional experience: This must include some responsibility for management, leadership, or supervision in a business environment.  Applicants will have to  demonstrate experience relating to organisational behaviour, business, strategy, marketing, economics, communication and people management.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 1 Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Course learning outcomes

In the context of a JCU graduate on successful completion of the Postgraduate Qualifying Program (Business) graduates will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate essential knowledge necessary for a career in business related professions
  2. Synthesise underlying principles and concepts for making business decisions
  3. Critically analyse the core professional obligations, values and operations of organisations including sustainability
  4. Critically evaluate data & resources in the context of relevant academic literature
  5. Apply critical thinking to address issues in business
  6. Convey information clearly and fluently, in high quality written form appropriate for their audience
  7. Demonstrate effective oral presentation skills for academic and professional audiences
  8. Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively
  9. Apply technical skills, including numeracy, necessary for professional practice in business
  10. Demonstrate an awareness of ethical and social responsibility in professional practice
  11. Identify and act upon, learning opportunities and self-improvements.

A student who has failed a single subject towards the award in their final teaching period and who gained 40% or more of the marks for that subject may be granted a supplementary examination in that subject.
