Description

This sap sucking bug, one of the jewel beetles, is usually seen feeding on species of Breynia (Phyllanthaceae). However it may be found on other plants, as in the photo, such as Larsenaikia (Rubiaceae). They tend to form non-feeding clusters during hot dry periods, spreading out as conditions improve. The basic colour is orange with patches of metallic blue, or green or even red. The scutellum or shield completely covers the abdomen and wings.
